Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins

(Sousa plumbea)

A surprise visit from these Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins (𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘢) during one of our field visits. Abu Dhabi boasts the largest population of Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins in the world⁣.

UAE Deserts

About 80% of the UAE's land area is comprised of deserts. Desert ecosystems may not lack water but they are home to several species of animals and plants that are adapted to survive in these harsh environments.

UAE Mangroves

Covering more than 150 square kilometers of the UAE’s coastline, these woody plants are a focal point of the country’s natural landscape. Mangroves in this region are able to survive particularly extreme salinity and temperature variations, with Grey Mangroves (Avicennia marina) being the only species of mangroves growing naturally in the UAE.

(Dugong dugon)

The Arabian Gulf has the second largest recorded population of dugongs in the world! Within the UAE, these herbivorous marine mammals are primarily found residing in Abu Dhabi waters.
